Reflecting on the International Coastal Cleanup 2024: A Day of Action and Impact!
On 21st September 2024 the shores of Sembawang Park were transformed as the Alpha Phi Omega Alumni Association in Singapore 189 joined forces with NEA from across the island for an incredible day of environmental stewardship. The International Coastal Cleanup 2024 wasn’t just an event—it was a powerful statement of our collective dedication to preserving our planet. 
Together, we scoured the coastline, collecting everything from plastic bottles and fishing lines to the unexpected oddities of discarded waste—each piece a reminder of the environmental challenges we face. In just a few short hours, we removed 189kg of debris from the shores, contributing to the global effort to reduce ocean-bound waste. This is more than just numbers; it’s a meaningful step toward a cleaner, more sustainable future for our oceans and marine ecosystems.
Highlights of the day included:
– Volunteers of all ages coming together, proving that no matter who we are or where we come from, we all play a role in protecting our planet.
– A deeply insightful sharing session from environmental advocates who reminded us of the lasting effects of single-use plastics and microplastics on marine life.
– A team-building experience that not only strengthened our bonds as an APO family but also expanded our network with like-minded individuals passionate about environmental change. 
We want to extend a heartfelt thank you to each and every volunteer who made the day such a resounding success. From the APO alumni members to the new friends who joined us for the first time, your energy, passion, and willingness to act will have ripple effects far beyond this event. 
While the cleanup at Sembawang Park is over, the journey doesn’t stop here. This is a reminder that we must carry the spirit of the International Coastal Cleanup with us every day—reducing our own waste, advocating for responsible consumption, and continuing to champion the fight for cleaner, healthier oceans.
